Red-White and Blue…..Americans celebrate July 4th from all over the world   Leave a comment

Happy Birthday America!

Happy Birthday America!

Regardless of where in the world Americans find themselves on the fourth day of July, they celebrate their country’s birthday! And if they find themselves traveling outside the country they often invite their friends to come along for the birthday party. This was the occasion when my daughter was in High School and an exchange student in Germany for two summers. The group was going to be there in Bavaria for the 4th of July and decided that they would host an All-American Birthday Party complete with Red-White and Blue outfits, hamburgers, hotdogs and square dancing. Square dancing? I asked “Why square dancing”? Well for whatever reason the kids believed square dancing was uniquely American. So we set off on a mission to create the best darn American looking square dance skirt we could make. I bought yards and yards of Red-White and Blue fabric and the biggest petticoat I could find!

Fast forward 15 years. I am dressing my baby Granddaughter in the cutest little Red-White and Blue dress with star-spangled stars all over it! The heritage lives on!

Today I am thinking about our fore-fathers and what they gave up so that we could enjoy the freedoms that we have today. I am thinking about the brave soldiers and sailors around the world that fight to keep that freedom. My cousin Tom is in Afghanistan right now and my heart goes out to him, his family and all the brave men and women who are serving and wearing their Red-White and Blue… even in far away places where the Red-White and Blue might not be so popular!

What every you have planned for your 4th….. food, fun, fireworks, family…. I wish you a safe time and a very Happy Birthday America!
